About the Board Elections

Cooperation Canada’s Board is composed of up to 14 Directors, elected to represent the diversity and priorities of our membership. Of these 14 Directors, ten are nominated and elected by members, and four are nominees of provincial and regional councils, one of which shall be from Quebec. Terms on the Board are for two years, and Board members can sit on the Board for a maximum of three terms, or six years.

Cooperation Canada Board Elections: 2026 Approach

This year, Cooperation Canada will not be seeking new candidates for election to our Board of Directors.

According to Cooperation Canada’s By-Laws, a person can serve as Director of the Cooperation Canada Board for a maximum of three consecutive terms of two years each.

This year:

  • No Cooperation Canada Board members are coming to the end of their third term.
  • Four members are coming to the end of their first term.
  • Two of the four provincial and regional council representatives are coming to the end of their two-year term, and two provincial and regional council representatives will require ratification by Cooperation Canada Members at the September 2026 AGM.
  • The remaining Board members are in the middle of their current term and not up for re-election.

The current Board cycle has been shorter than usual, with Directors elected in January 2025 rather than September 2024. In light of this shortened cycle, the absence of Directors reaching the end of their maximum term, and the importance of maintaining Board continuity as Cooperation Canada begins implementation of its new Strategic Framework, the Governance, HR and Nominations Committee recommended that Cooperation Canada not open a call for additional Board candidates in 2026. Instead, eligible Directors completing their first term and seeking to continue their service would be presented to the membership for election to a second term.

This approach was endorsed by the Cooperation Canada Board of Directors and has been communicated to Cooperation Canada members since early June 2026.

While this event is open to the public, please note that your organization must be an active Cooperation Canada member to vote at the AGM.
