Land Acknowledgment

Cooperation Canada’s offices are located on the unceded, unsurrendered Territory of the Anishinabe Algonquin Nation (colonially known as Ottawa).
We recognize that the lands on which we live and work have long been cared for by Indigenous peoples, and we honour the enduring presence, knowledge and stewardship of First Nations, Métis and Inuit communities across these territories.

We believe that social justice in Canada and globally depends on meaningful reconciliation with Indigenous peoples. This includes acknowledging past and ongoing harms, supporting Indigenous rights and self-determination and working toward more equitable relationships grounded in respect and accountability.

As a national network, our members and partners are located across many different Indigenous territories. We encourage you to learn more about the lands you are on and the Nations who have cared for them since time immemorial. Resources such as the Native Land Digital map can help deepen understanding of the diverse Indigenous territories, languages and histories across what is now known as Canada and beyond.

We offer this acknowledgement as a starting point—one that calls us to ongoing learning, reflection and action in support of Indigenous sovereignty and justice.
