A 2026 Look at Black Changemakers, Innovators and Disruptors Shaping Canada’s International Cooperation

As we mark Black History Month 2026, Cooperation Canada is proud to celebrate this year’s theme — “30 Years of Black History Month: Honouring Black Brilliance Across Generations — From Nation Builders to Tomorrow’s Visionaries.” We honour the legacy of Black leaders who have shaped our sector while uplifting those building a more just and equitable future.

For the third year, our digital campaign highlights Black changemakers, innovators and disruptors in Canadian international cooperation. Throughout February, we are profiling leaders whose achievements, challenges and perspectives are transforming the sector and advancing equity, inclusion and justice.

This year, the campaign also builds momentum toward the Ottawa Civic Space Summit in April 2026, where civil society partners will gather to reflect on the future of civic space and democratic engagement.

Join us throughout the month as we celebrate Black brilliance across generations and recognize the leaders shaping international cooperation today.
