At the 2024 International Cooperation Futures Forum, Métis artist Colleen Gray created a live painting inspired by three days of transformative dialogue and collaboration. Titled “The Light,” this remarkable artwork symbolizes hope, resilience, and the courage to drive change.

The Story Behind The Light

“The Light” portrays a woman seated on the edge of a cliff, holding a flame that connects her to the universe. Above her, the constellation Cassiopeia shines as a beacon of hope, balanced by Perseus, embodying strength. Her precarious position reflects the challenges of forging a path for positive change, even when no clear way forward is visible. The constellations in the painting are accurately placed as they appear in Ottawa’s October night sky, grounding the piece in the time and space of the Futures Forum.
