Bees and Women: How Climate Change Is Disrupting Beekeeping

April 15 @ 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm EDT

261fc485-1f50-9464-b6e8-4c87c9a95acb

When: April 15 at 12 p.m.

Where: Virtual (on Zoom), exceptionally translated into Arabic simultaneously.

The impact of climate change on our daily lives and on agricultural activity is being felt. And agri-food processing is no exception, also facing significant disruptions. Using the example of bees, we will see how beekeeping is affected: whether in terms of swarm health, seasonal rhythms, or fluctuating apiary yields. All these realities have an impact on the rural economy and the availability of local food.

The panel will bring together speakers from science and honey processing sectors in Tunisia and Quebec. Exceptionally presented in French and Arabic, it is the result of a collaboration between UPA Développement International (UPA DI) and the Tunisian Union of Agriculture and Fisheries (UTAP).

To reflect on the question, the guests:

  • Mrs. Mathilde Tissier , Research Fellow at the CNRS (France) and Associate Professor at UQÀM (Quebec).
  • Mrs. Safa Athimni , President and Producer, Lellassén Khemir Agricultural Services Mutual Society.
  • Mrs. Maggie Lamothe Boudreau , beekeeper and entrepreneur, owner of Rayons de miel.

Animation: Hélène Raymond
