Engaging parliamentarians and senators
Cooperation Canada engages regularly with parliamentarians and senators to advocate for the needs of the most vulnerable as well as sector priorities. In leading advocacy with parliamentarians, Cooperation Canada creates opportunities for its membership to share their concerns with decision-makers and encourage further Canadian leadership on the global stage. Cooperation Canada hosts an annual hill day, where it invites its members to Ottawa for a day of meetings with parliamentarians to advocate for the needs of the world’s most vulnerable.
A longstanding area of engagement has been Official Development Assistance (ODA) spending. Through its engagement with parliamentarians, Cooperation Canada and its members have called on government to increase its spending on ODA.
Cooperation Canada also consults its membership to make submissions to parliamentary standing committees including through its annual pre-budget submission.
