The Language and Culture of PSEA – InterAction

This report, a collaboration between InterAction and Translators Without Borders (TWB), explores the vital link between language and culture in preventing and responding to Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) within humanitarian contexts. It emphasizes that failing to address linguistic and cultural differences can exacerbate vulnerability, hinder reporting, and complicate prevention efforts. The report recommends increasing investment in research and analysis of local languages and cultures, better integrating community voices, and shifting from one-off training to ongoing capacity-building activities to address the complexities of PSEA effectively. It concludes with a call to action for NGOs, UN agencies, and donors to prioritize language and cultural awareness in PSEA programs and policies.
