ASSIGNGMENT OVERVIEW Contract Accountant – Part-time – REVENUE & FINANCIAL OPERATIONS ABOUT CAMFED Entity: CAMFED Canada Reporting to: Finance Manager Location: Remote within Canada Contract Type: Independent Contractor Estimated Commitment: 10–15 hours per week (flexible, with increased availability during month-end, year-end and audit periods) Remuneration: 35-38$ / hour, plus GST (if applicable) Contract Term: Initial three-month contract, with the possibility of renewal based on performance. OBJECTIVE To provide specialized finance support to CAMFED Canada by ensuring revenue transactions are accurately recorded, reconciled, documented, and reported while maintaining strong internal controls and audit readiness. The Contract Accountant will support CAMFED Canada’s financial operations with a primary focus on revenue accounting, donation reconciliations, financial controls, audit readiness and compliance. The role will work closely with the Finance Manager and Fundraising team to ensure that donations, grants, and other income streams are accurately recorded, reconciled, reported, and supported by appropriate documentation. The Contract Accountant will also contribute to strengthening internal controls, improving finance processes and maintaining audit-ready records throughout the year. SCOPE OF WORK Revenue Management and Reconciliations: Prepare and post revenue-related journal entries. Work with the development team to receive incoming mail, process check donations and maintain donor records. Reconcile donation income between Salesforce, FinancialForce, bank accounts, investment accounts and third-party donation platforms. Reconcile donations received through Canada Helps, Benevity, Charitable Impact workplace giving programs, stock donations and other fundraising platforms. Investigate and resolve discrepancies identified during reconciliations. Support accurate revenue recognition and deferred revenue accounting. Review coding of donations to ensure revenues are classified correctly. Financial Operations: Assist with month-end, quarter-end and year-end close processes. Assist in account reconciliations and supporting schedules. Assist in maintaining revenue, receivable and deferred revenue schedules. Post supplier payments (checks, ACH, credit cards etc) to the general ledger and match them with corresponding journals. Support preparation of management reporting schedules as required. Maintain organized electronic finance records and supporting documentation. Compliance and Controls: Perform quarterly reviews of donation coding and revenue classifications. Assist in review of deferred revenue balances and supporting schedules. Support compliance with internal finance policies and delegated authority requirements. Identify control weaknesses and recommend process improvements. Audit and Reporting Support: Maintain audit-ready working papers throughout the year. Prepare audit schedules and supporting documentation. Respond to auditor requests in collaboration with the Director of Finance and Finance Manager. Systems and Process Improvement: Recommend opportunities to improve efficiency, controls and automation. Assist with testing and implementation of finance process improvements as required. Other Duties: Provide ad hoc support on finance projects and special assignments. Perform other related duties as assigned by the Director of Finance. KEY DELIVERABLES Monthly Deliverables All assigned reconciliations completed within seven business days of month-end. Revenue journals prepared and posted accurately. Donation platform reconciliations completed and reviewed. Outstanding reconciliation issues documented and escalated. Quarterly Deliverables Revenue coding review completed. Deferred revenue review completed. Investment account review completed for stock donation activity. Process documentation updated as required. Annual Deliverables Audit schedules prepared and maintained. Auditor requests responded to within agreed timelines. Year-end working papers maintained and organized. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE Diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related field. Minimum three years of accounting, bookkeeping or financial operations experience. Experience working with charities or not-for-profit organizations is preferred. Strong understanding of revenue accounting and reconciliations. Advanced Microsoft Excel skills. Experience with accounting and ERP systems. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills. Contribution to process improvement initiatives. WORKING ARRANGEMENTS Contract Accountant will use their own equipment and internet access. Work will be performed remotely. Hours are flexible but must align with month-end, audit and reporting deadlines. Regular virtual check-ins will be held with the Director of Finance and Finance Manager REPORTING The Contract Accountant will report directly to the Finance Manager and work closely with the relevant members of the Fundraising team.
